We are a Lancaster, Ohio-based 501(c)(3) non-profit, dedicated to nourishing our community with art and culture. We were born in 2019 out of many electric conversations around how to foster a rich and diverse fellowship of artists while expanding what it means to be a “creative community.” This community is full of creative people, and we aspire to lift their voices by offering new, thought-provoking, feel-good experiences all year round.
Meet some of Fathom Artists below…
We are a group of artists who build community through the nourishment of art and culture.
Our focus is on creative placemaking in our neighborhoods. We share values like imagination, connection, uniqueness, justice, and free exploration. We meet once a month, share our knowledge, learn from one another, and organize shows to promote our art.
Alex Matthews
My art style ranges from cute and wholesome to dark and often humorous in nature. Animals and
visual media are big inspirations for my work and you’ll see that theme in almost every piece. I often start in traditional mediums like pen and ink or watercolor/ gouache and then transfer it to editing software for finishing edits but some are digital only and others traditional only. I try to put a lot of my own personality into every piece and I hope that translates well into my work.

Cryptic Bat Creations by Eleeya
Eleeya is a multidisciplinary artist who is heavily inspired by flora/fauna and how humans are interwoven and connected (or disconnected) with the natural world. She explores themes, cycles, and patterns that occur in both nature and human societies in her art. Sometimes light, sometimes dark, it’s the pervasive interconnectedness of all things that she ultimately aims to portray through her creations.
Chainmaille, clay, macrame, and illustration through pen and ink, graphite, and digital media
Danielle Patterson is a Lancaster, Ohio based artist who works mainly in abstract art. Her mediums are acrylic paint, alcohol inks and watercolors. What makes her pieces stand out are the bold colors she uses to evoke a feeling from the viewer.

Lisa Shamhart Maugmer is an Ohio-based, self-taught artist working across painting, collage, monoprint, and photography. Her work is process-driven and intuitive, often combining layered paint, hand-made papers, and mixed media to create abstract and organic compositions inspired by the
natural world.

My art reflects my interest in combining collage, painting and photography with various mediums and techniques. I rely on inspiration for my pieces from a variety of sources, nature, color, always searching for an idea or image that strikes me as something I would like to re-imagine for myself and the viewer.

Sue King
I use research as a basic tool in an attempt to gain insight into the complexity of landscape and to inform my artistic practice. This brings a deeper meaning to my work which is built up in a parallel process of layering. I use a variety of textile and printmaking techniques including machine stitch, hand embroidery, beadwork, cyanotype, serigraphy, photography, and collagraphic prints to build up layers then stitch them together into a story. I repurpose old linens and clothing to minimize the textile waste dumped in our landfills. It is my intent to draw the viewer’s attention to the importance of the natural world and wild places,to educate and persuade them to ask questions, to seek creative new solutions, and to find the will to implement them in order to conserve the gifts of the land.

Suzanne Rogers
Suzanne’s paintings/prints are a visual journal of thoughts and paint/ink. She works on, and completes, several pieces simultaneously. The works are a record
of that time span. She depicts human beauty, flaws, vulnerabilities, and tenacity as well as the beauty, flaws, and vulnerabilities of the medium (paint, ink,
linoleum and China marker).
“I paint like a fisherman. I play with paint and the thoughts of the day and respond to that visual record the next day. I enjoy the process as much as the
completed piece.

Teresa Speakman
I fell in love with clay in the mid-’70s when I met a group of potters in the Hocking Hills, was awestruck, and determined to follow the path! I enjoy making my own stamps and carving into the clay to create texture. In December 2022, Mud Gallery was founded as a home for my pottery, providing year-round access for people to discover it, as well as offering playshops for others to handcraft their own.
